The privacy, transparency and dealing with profile data
Zerocopy has 66 000 active users who fill in their (or parts of their) profiles and share personal information. In today’s world, where privacy is a very important issue, it is only normal to take a minute and discuss all the information that people spread across the internet, and how Zerocopy sees this.
Research shows that there has been an increase in ‘privacy sensitive’ people. The number of people who would change there behaviour after a cybersecurity breach, though, is dropping. According to the research, this can mean one of two things. The first option is, that more users feel powerless to stop privacy intrusion because they don’t know how to protect themselves. Secondly, that they don’t always understand the issues involved. (…)

Privacy & Transparency at Zerocopy
Zerocopy is the first website where students can transparently trade their profile data to receive a valuable service.
Most websites gather information in a subtle, almost concealed way. The user thus, never knows exactly what information a website has on them, neither is it clear what happens with that data. Especially with the very useful Facebook Login button, you can register easily, but you never really know how much of your profile data you allow acces to.
At Zerocopy, there is no secret about it: Facebook gives us your email address and if you answer some profile questions, we’ll give you extra credits. The answers given, are used to show you advertisements that are relevant to you. If you don’t wear glasses, why would you care about an ad for contact lenses?
Every student is free to answer any question he wants. Even if you don’t want to answer any questions, we’ll still give you 50 credits to begin with.
